Cloud phones explained: devices, identity, and limits

An Android cloud phone gives one social profile its own Android device in the cloud. You control it from your computer, install native apps, and keep its app data, login history, device details, and sessions separate.

➡️ Go to “Profiles” → “Mobile” → “Create” → choose a public proxy and device settings → click “Create”.

Use a cloud phone when the work happens inside an Android app rather than on a website. Multilogin sets up the device details automatically, so you don’t need to configure individual identifiers yourself.

Real Android devices

Multilogin cloud phones run on real cloud-hosted Android devices with ARM hardware. You control the phone remotely from your computer instead of keeping physical devices on your desk.

The device setup follows real mobile hardware combinations, including:

  • Device model
  • CPU
  • GPU
  • RAM
  • Android version

Native Android apps

Apps run directly inside the Android environment and can access the device and system information they normally expect from a phone.

That includes things like device identifiers, hardware details, battery state, network information, and supported mobile sensors.

Getting a cloud phone ready for work?
Follow How to install apps on mobile profiles to set up the tools you need and get started faster.

Device identifiers

Multilogin generates device identifiers automatically based on the cloud phone’s brand, model, and Android version.

These can include:

  • Android ID
  • IMEI
  • GAID
  • Build properties
  • Device model
  • Brand
  • System properties

Even if two cloud phones use the same model and Android version, they still have separate device identifiers.

Identifiers stay with the cloud phone while it exists. If you delete or reset the device, a new set is generated for the new setup.

Device identifiers are set automatically
IMEI, Android ID, serial number, Build ID, and bootloader status are generated by Multilogin and can’t be edited manually.

Sensors and battery

Cloud phones provide mobile sensor data that Android apps can use, including:

  • Accelerometer
  • Gyroscope
  • Magnetometer

Sensor values can change while the phone is running instead of staying fixed.

Battery information also changes over time. Cloud phones reproduce normal states such as charging and discharging, so the battery doesn’t stay stuck at the same percentage or status.

Network, carrier, and location

A cloud phone needs a proxy to connect to the internet.

The network setup also keeps related location details aligned. For example, a cloud phone using a US IP can use US carrier information and a matching GPS region.

This helps keep the IP, carrier, GPS location, and device region consistent.

Google Play Integrity

Some Android apps use Google Play Integrity to check whether a device meets their requirements for registration, sign-in, or specific features.

For profiles that need to pass Google Play Integrity checks, we recommend Android 14 or 16. These versions currently have the simplest setup because they don’t require an additional keybox upload.

SMS, calls, and eSIMs

Cloud phones don’t provide every function of a physical phone.

You can’t use them to:

  • Send or receive SMS messages
  • Make or receive phone calls
  • Use eSIMs

Need SMS or phone verification?
Use an external SMS or phone-number provider. See How to complete SMS verification using Multilogin cloud phones.

Camera input

Cloud phones support camera input from the “Camera” tab in the right-side menu.

You can use your computer’s camera as the live camera source or upload a .mp4 file to use as a prerecorded video stream.

FAQs

Are Multilogin cloud phones real phones or emulators?

Multilogin cloud phones run on real Android devices hosted in the cloud. They aren’t desktop Android emulators running on your computer.

You simply control the Android device remotely through Multilogin.

Can I use a cloud phone without a proxy?

No. A cloud phone needs a proxy to connect to the internet and use the intended IP and location setup.

Why do I see a local IP address in Chrome on a cloud phone?

That’s normal. Chrome on Android shows a private local network IP address by default. It isn’t the cloud phone’s real public IP, and you’ll see similar local IP information on physical Android phones too.

WebRTC is disabled by default on cloud phones, so the public IP address isn’t displayed through WebRTC.

Can I enable root access on a cloud phone?

Root access is off by default. If you need it for a specific workflow, contact Multilogin support to check whether it can be enabled for your case.

How do I enable my camera and microphone on a cloud phone?

To use your computer’s camera and microphone with a Multilogin cloud phone, first give the cloud phone permission to access them. Then enable the camera and microphone from the cloud phone controls.

  1. Start your cloud phone
  2. Click the camera icon in the left sidebar
  3. In the system pop-up, click “Allow” to let the cloud phone use your camera
  4. In the next system pop-up, click “Allow” to let the cloud phone use your microphone
  5. Under “Camera”, select the camera you want to use
  6. Turn on the “Camera” toggle
  7. Under “Microphone”, select the microphone you want to use
  8. Turn on the “Microphone” toggle

Once both toggles are on, the selected camera and microphone are available to the cloud phone.

Tip: The permission pop-ups may appear only the first time you enable camera and microphone access. If you previously clicked “Don’t Allow”, you’ll need to allow access in your computer’s system privacy settings before trying again.
