How to use 2FA (two-factor authentication)
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a verification code after your password when you sign in with an email-and-password account. If you sign in with a social media platform, you manage 2FA with that provider instead of Multilogin.
➡️ Go to “Account settings” → “Security” → click “Enable 2FA” → scan the QR code with your authenticator app → enter the six-digit code.
Workspace owners can also require 2FA for the whole workspace, but only when all team members use email-and-password sign-in.
2FA for social sign-in
If you sign in with Google, Apple, or other platforms, Multilogin 2FA isn’t available for your account.
Manage 2FA directly with your sign-in provider. If you enable 2FA there, Google, Apple, or another social network you chose may ask for an additional verification code when you sign in to Multilogin.
Use the same sign-in method
Social sign-in accounts can’t be linked or merged with email-and-password accounts.
How to enable 2FA for your account
You can enable Multilogin 2FA if you sign in with an email and password.
- Сlick “Account settings” in the upper-left corner
- Click “Enable 2FA” next to “Two-factor authentication”
- Follow the instructions to use Google Authenticator (or a similar app) and click “Continue”
How to require 2FA for your workspace
Only the workspace owner can require 2FA for all team members. Before you enable it, make sure no team members sign in via social media platforms.
Once enabled, team members who haven’t set up 2FA will be asked to do so when they access the workspace.
A team member uses social sign-in?
Remove that member first, then invite them to register a new email-and-password account using a different email address from their social-sign-in account. After everyone uses email and password, you can enable workspace 2FA.
- Сlick “Account settings” in the upper-left corner
- Click “Enable for workspace” next to “2FA settings”
- Confirm your choice in the pop-up window
FAQs
Where are my backup codes?
Multilogin no longer uses backup codes for 2FA.
Why didn’t Multilogin ask for my 2FA code?
If you had Multilogin 2FA enabled before the sign-in update, it was reset. Go to “Account settings” → “Security” and enable it again.
If you use Google, Apple, or another social platform's sign-in, Multilogin doesn’t manage your 2FA. Any additional verification is handled by your sign-in provider.
Can I turn off 2FA for my workspace?
Yes. The workspace owner can turn off workspace 2FA from “Account settings” → “Security”.
What if I can’t scan the QR code?
Use the setup option available in your authenticator app to enter the key manually.
If you close the Multilogin setup window and open it again, use the new QR code or setup key because Multilogin creates a new one each time.
